Creative Coding-Beginners

Creative coding teaches your child to code by helping them make their own custom video games!  Our project-based, multi-level classes are amazingly fun, yet very effective in teaching creative problem solving AND emotional resilience. As your creative girl or boy has fun bringing their ideas to life they iterate through the emotional cycle of coding (idea->excitement->effort->frustration->more effort->triumph!) with our support and positive encouragement. Repeating this cycle not only builds great coders but more importantly, develops emotional persistence that will help students enjoy taking on new challenges in all aspects of their lives. Beginner students new to coding will participate in the Creative Coding core curriculum, learning the fundamental elements of coding using MIT's Scratch to create their very own computer games and animations!

NEW!!! Nature Explorers:

In this dynamic after-school program, students will explore the natural world through games, art, and hands-on activities that engage their senses. Students will have fun as they increase their nature knowledge, increase their empathy toward other living things, and have the opportunity to work collaboratively with others. Children who play outside get to experience the sensory richness that is impossible to replicate watching TV or playing video games. Studies continue to show that outdoor play helps reduce children's stress levels, increase a sense of well-being, increase self-esteem, boost confidence and enhance social skills. My goal is to provide opportunities for children to connect with the natural world in ways that are fun, engaging and meaningful

Advanced Coding:

*This session is designed for students who have already taken at least one camp or class with Creative Coding in the past.

Students with previous Scratch experience will enjoy the Advances Curriculum, where each day contains a unique mix of coding challenges, techniques, and hacks. Our classes are designed to be repeated an infinite number of times. As students complete a class, they go up one level, like in video games, and increase their coding skills, speed and proficiency. Many parents and educators are realizing that eh benefits of learning to code at a young age extends far beyond the skill itself. Through the "brain exercise" of coding, coders build intelligence like athletes build muscles. Just as importantly, they develop stronger problem-solving skills, confidence over technology, and emotional persistence.
